Start your day…the Bulalicious way

 In Bulalicious Blogs

It’s a typical work day and your alarm has gone off. You feel groggy and you’re trying to convince yourself that the husky throat that you feel is the start of some new found cold that will see you rested up in bed for the next few days. However we know deep down, this is not the case.

It’s time to change this feeling.. of course we feel ill when we awake, we’ve been laying horizontal for the best part of 8 hours. How amazing is it that our body even remembers how to even function after so long doing nothing? This is the issue we feel we need to address.

We need to help our body remember how to function by giving it a head start before we dash to the bus or jump in the car, straight into a meeting where we expect our brain to remember the key points of that important presentation or the lesson we should be teaching to 40 students who are staring eagerly back at us.

We need to give our body time to acclimatise and the Bulalicious team have come up with some simple steps to help our bodies regain its equilibrium and perform to the best of its ability throughout the day.

Issue: No one likes stress.. so why do we constantly snooze that alarm and push it to the last minute? When we are racing around the house grabbing anything we can find that will remotely pass as breakfast, dressing in a last minute un-coordinated outfit or trying to find our car keys at the bottom of our handbags?

Solution: Set your alarm with a peaceful alarm tone, that will wake you from your slumber without causing your heart to start racing and have you feeling on edge. Give yourself 5 minutes, whereby you just lay there giving all your limbs chance to wake up and your brain a second to switch on.

Issue: When we wake up some of us find it difficult to have breakfast, which is fine until we start to feel groggy mid morning and then grab a sugary snack every hour on the hour until the end of the work day.

Solution: All of this unnecessary binge eating can be avoided by a little ‘pre-planning.’ Firstly set out your cereal bowl in the morning, or spend 10 minutes the evening before preparing your overnight oats. This forward thinking will ensure you save time in the mornings and also start the day with a nutritious meal, seeing you through until lunchtime.

Issue: Throughout the day you may constantly feel on the back foot, no matter what you do you’re making errors left, right and centre or find it hard to engage your brain at all. You’ve started your day at 100mph and you are rapidly losing momentum and feeling lethargic.

Solution: Get in a morning workout – this doesn’t have to mean a high intensity kickboxing class followed by an ocean swim, simply a walk around the block to gather your thoughts, compartmentalise the day and the tasks ahead and get your zen in check.

If you constantly feel like you are starting your days out of control and in a whirlwind then making these minor changes to your morning routine could reduce stress, improve your productivity during the day and reduce your likelihood of binge eating.
