Behind the scenes with Bulalicious and the Travel Channel

 In Bulalicious Blogs

Day 1 – Monday

See you later Suva! After a late departure (Fiji time as always) we were off on a crazy adventure filming for the American Travel Channel on a segment featuring Taveuni’s top secret swimming holes.

Day 2 – Tuesday

Half the day was spent on that darn ferry. But wow the sunrise over Savusavu was something else! Note to selves – we must come back and visit this place. We finally arrived on Taveuni around midday and went straight to Maravu Lodge, our home for the next 5 nights. We met up with Enoch, our camera man, who gave us a debrief of the next few days and then met the lovely Bulalicious Ambassador Hannah and her partner Victor whom would also be on shoot with us.

Day 3 – Wednesday

Taveuni you beauty! Wednesday was a day off… not bad for our first full day on the island. After an easy hitch to the town we spent hours walking around checking out the amazing views and stocking up on yummy fresh fruit. Bulalicious leggings and tops, check! The afternoon consisted of the sun, sand and sea… pure bliss!

Day 4 – Thursday

Thursday was Matagi Island shoot day. Oooh boy, we are still pinching ourselves about this trip! We left Maravu lodge at 6:30am and headed to the other side of the island where we boarded a small boat. After a 40 minute ride we pulled up on the shores of Matagi island. We filmed a quick tour of the resort and relaxed in a lush swinging double bed before we jumped back on the boat to check out Horeshoe Bay. The most used word of the day was ‘unreal’, simply because it was! A turtle greeted us on arrival and then we spent the day filming kayaking and snorkelling in our Bulalicious Degei and Hawk bikinis.

Day 5 – Friday

On Friday the whole crew set off for the Lavena Coastal walk. Since Friday was all about the hiking, it was only fitting to wear the Bulalicious Taveuni inspired Early Bird Board Shorts. Along with Hannah and Victor, we hiked a small distance up a beautiful beach until we arrived at a boat waiting for us. We all jumped on and cruised up to our first waterfall. It was another small 20 minute hike through the tropical bush to these waterfalls, and the only way to get to the bottom was to swim up a channel of water. Super cool! All 4 of us enjoyed slipping down the waterfall as though it were a slide but none of us were game enough to jump on the incredibly tall waterfall next to it. Maybe next time! After a few hours of filming we hiked back to the boat, jumped back on and cruised right on up to the Wainivakaca falls, more commonly known as the triple water fall. Like the name suggests, 3 stunning waterfalls cascaded down, one after the other, and we all enjoyed climbing up them and kicking back in the natural pools. Since you have to climb up the rock to enjoy the view, the only way down was to jump. Yeeew! On our boat journey back to the car waiting for us, we passed a good 8 waterfalls in the distance. It was truly spectacular!

Day 6 – Saturday

Saturday was a free day in case we needed to film due to bad weather on the other day. Lucky for us, the weather was stunning all week so we headed out to explore the island with the cameraman Enoch. We checked out the international date line and the fire station then went cruising around with his driver. Out the window of the car we spotted a small island with a big sandy beach so Enoch decided to spontaneously hire a boat, pack snorkels and an esky full of snacks and drinks and off we went to Korolevu island. Thank goodness for our Bulalicious Degei and Hawk caps for sun protection because phoaar it was a scorcher!

Day 7 – Sunday

Suva bound. We can’t believe how fast the whole week went but it was definitely one for the history books.

A big Vinaka Vakalevu to Bulalicious for letting us rep their gear on this amazing photoshoot!
