What Does It Take To Be "Healthy"?

 In Bulalicious Blogs

Bula Vinaka, I’m Brittany Coates and I am pleased and honoured to be a new Bulalicious Ambassador. I am currently a member of the Fijiana Women’s Sevens Team. We are training extremely hard in preparation for The Women’s World Sevens Series and the 2016 Olympics. I have recently completed my Bachelor of Science Degree with a double major in Nutrition and Psychology.

My aim as a Bulalicous ambassador is to help motivate you to get fit and healthy. I cannot emphasize enough to you how amazing the Bulalicious active wear is to work out in but also how good it makes you feel about yourself! Not to mention the amazing support Bulalicious provides to Fijian charities. With Bulalicious, I strive to role model healthy living behaviours using the resources we have around us here in Fiji. In my monthly blogs I look forward to sharing with you tips and ideas on health and fitness. With this being my first blog, I would love to share with you what I believe to be some of the most important elements to achieving good health.

What does it take to be “healthy”?

Studying Nutrition and Psychology for four years really gave me plenty of time to establish a personal perspective on what it takes to be ‘Healthy’. My theory is simple… to be healthy we need to live a balanced lifestyle. A balanced lifestyle requires us to…
– Eat healthy foods (Fruit, Vegetables, Milk and milk products, lean meat & alternatives e.g. Seafood, poultry, eggs, nuts, seeds, beans and lentils)
– Drink plenty of clean water (Gunu wai vakalevu…8 cups a day at least!)
– Sleep Well (7-8 Hours)
– Exercise regularly (At least 20mins a day, more is great)

I have found, if you can get these four main elements in balance and in a good routine, you will begin to feel healthier and look healthier too. Your body will function better and you will have more energy and motivation to eat healthy and exercise.

I am really looking forward to sharing with you in my next blog some updates on my training and also sharing some of the delicious foods I love to eat here in Fiji that are readily available and affordable.

Vinaka Vakalevu,
Brittany Coates
